Professional Electrical Subpanel Installation Services in Burleson
A subpanel adds organized circuit capacity and convenient local control exactly where your home or business needs more power. At Wallace Electric, our licensed technicians install subpanels for detached garages, busy workshops, home additions, and any area that has outgrown its existing circuits. A subpanel branches off your main panel through a single feeder and then distributes that power locally through its own set of breakers. This setup solves the common problem of a main panel that is completely full, and it works well for structures located far from the main service. Before we install anything, our team performs a careful load calculation to confirm that your main panel and service can support the added demand. We then size both the subpanel and its feeder to match the real load the new circuits will carry. One of the most critical details in any subpanel is keeping the neutral and the ground completely separate, and our electricians follow that requirement on every job. We handle the feeder run, the grounding, the bonding, and each branch circuit with the precision that safe electrical work demands. For detached structures, we install a separate grounding electrode and run the feeder in conduit rated for that specific use. Our background checked and drug tested technicians work cleanly, explain every step in plain language, and leave your space exactly as they found it. With a five year parts and labor warranty available, your new subpanel is backed for many years to come. Wallace Electric makes subpanel installation safe, organized, and built to last throughout the Burleson area.

Seth did a great job setting my new pendant Lights. Very professional and reasonably priced.
Thank you Seth for your professionalism and explaining the work to be done in detail. Definitely recommend their small business for all electrical needs.
We hired this electrician for our breaker panel replacement in Dallas after buying an older home. The existing panel wasn’t up to code and couldn’t support the modern appliances that got installed by the previous owner. They installed a new electrical service panel, whole home surge protection & hosted a city inspection. He explained everything very clearly. If you’re in need of a home electrical panel upgrade, I highly recommend them. The work was clean, efficient and the whole process was stress-free. Great experience from start to finish thanks guys!
Wallace Electric replaced some lighting fixtures as well as hung new ones for me at a reasonable price. They were able to come out the day after our estimate and even being behind schedule, were still able to finish the job. Everything looks exactly as I hoped. Highly recommend this family business.
These guys are awesome - I was painting for a customer and removed the can lights to remove popcorn texture, however they required some adjustment because of the new ceiling height. Wallace was hired by the customer to do other light renovations and so I asked them if they could add on a small scope. I know this was a big ask because it's always difficult to change your scope of work especially late at night as they were ( the customer was moving in the next day and working hard to add extra touches). But their service was awesome and obviously very skilled because the modification was quick and professional and the customer loved the seamless service. I also found the prices very affordable and would continue to do business with them.
Seth did an awesome job installing two ceiling fans. He did a great job of answering other questions I asked him. He was very friendly and respectful. He wired a Blink doorbell for free. Other companies where charging me $50 to connect two wires. I definitely would recommend using them and I will use them again if I need additional service.
I cannot say enough how great Wallace electric is, they came very fast at 10pm at night, we had an emergency and lost power in all outlets and lights. They had everything up and running in no time. Great attitudes, very smart, highly knowledgeable, nice guys. I will be using them in the future 110%, this is the type of company that is a gem and I very highly recommend them. They let u know all pricing up front, no hidden fees, answered all my questions, gave quotes for future projects. If you are needing an electrician in down, then call Wallace electric, I know I will.
I needed an outlet installed in my garage for my fridge and they installed it for me. Very fast and professional.
I had a fan transferred from master bedroom to game room and a new fan placed in the master bedroom. He was in and out like a breeze. Answered all questions and explained everything clearly. The best part is they are a local family owned business in my area.
Seth replaced 5 outlets, a few breaker switches, and fixed some broken switches and added grounding to them. He was very professional, explained what he was doing, and did everything up to code. We also got a promotional discount and a 2-year warranty. Overall a very pleasant experience and I'll be using the company if anything should happen in the future.
They rewired my house, and the customer service was exceptional and they accommodated all my needs, and answered all my questions. And did great work.
trustworthy! great work! They replaced my electrical panel and switches! they were very very professional would recommend!
Seth did a great job fixing my wiring in our breaker box and upgrading our ceiling fan. Fast worker and super friendly!
I was having some built in shelves installed that required an outlet. Caleb came recommended from my installer. Caleb set up an appointment and came out that next week. Caleb and his partner came on time and got right to work. They were absolutely great to work with. They were professional and treated my home with respect. The outlet was installed to the exact specifications that was needed by the installer. After they were done they made sure everything was I working order and then cleaned up. I was highly impressed. I will definitely be using his services again and will recommend him to my friends and family.

Electrical Subpanel Installation Service
A subpanel is a smaller secondary electrical panel that branches off your main panel to distribute power to a specific area of the property. It receives its power from the main panel through a single feeder, then divides that power among its own dedicated set of breakers. Wallace Electric installs subpanels for homes and businesses of all kinds throughout Burleson and the surrounding communities we are proud to serve. Subpanels solve a very common problem by adding much needed circuit space when the main panel is full or located far away. A detached garage, a workshop, a home addition, or a backyard structure very often benefits from having its own dedicated subpanel. Rather than running many individual circuits all the way back from the main panel, a single feeder conveniently powers the subpanel. From there, short branch circuits fan out to serve the outlets, lights, and equipment located in that area. This approach is noticeably cleaner, far more organized, and often more cost effective than the alternative of many long runs. Our licensed electricians carefully size the subpanel and its feeder based on the total load it must support. A properly installed subpanel extends your electrical system safely and conveniently to wherever in the home you need more power.
There are several common situations around the home where a subpanel turns out to be exactly the right solution. A main panel that is completely full, with no open slots remaining, is easily one of the most frequent reasons. Rather than upgrading the entire electrical service, a subpanel can often add the circuit space you need at a lower cost. A detached garage or a standalone workshop is another classic and common application for a subpanel. Running one feeder out to the structure and branching circuits from a local subpanel is both efficient and tidy. A home addition often needs several new circuits at once, and a subpanel can supply all of them neatly. A finished basement, an outdoor kitchen, or a pool equipment area can each benefit greatly from a dedicated subpanel. A workshop full of heavy power tools may need its own subpanel just to handle the concentrated electrical load. These situations all share a common need for organized circuit capacity in one specific location of the property. A subpanel meets that need neatly without the larger expense of a full service upgrade in many common cases.
A subpanel offers several real advantages over the alternative of running many separate circuits from the main panel. The biggest advantage is convenience, since the breakers for an area are located right where the power is actually used. If a breaker trips out in the garage, you simply reset it at the garage subpanel rather than walking all the way to the main panel. This kind of convenient local control makes both troubleshooting and everyday use much simpler. A subpanel also greatly reduces the clutter of many long individual wire runs heading back to the main panel. A single feeder carries all the power, and the branch circuits themselves stay short and organized. This much cleaner approach is far easier to understand and easier to service down the road in the future. A subpanel can also free up valuable space in a crowded main panel without the need for a full service upgrade. For detached structures in particular, a subpanel is often the only practical way to provide adequate power. These combined advantages make subpanels a smart, flexible, and lasting solution for many homes and businesses.
Installing a subpanel correctly involves several important steps and a number of critical details. We always begin by confirming that the main panel has enough spare capacity to safely supply the new subpanel. A careful load calculation determines if the main panel and the service can comfortably support the added demand. We then carefully size the feeder conductors and the feeder breaker to match the subpanel’s expected load. The feeder runs from the main panel to the subpanel location through conduit, inside walls, or underground as needed. For a detached structure, the feeder very often runs underground inside conduit that is rated for that specific use. We mount the new subpanel and connect the feeder, then carefully land each branch circuit on its own breaker. A critical detail here is keeping the neutral and the ground completely separate in a subpanel, unlike in the main panel. We also install a separate grounding electrode for detached structures in every case where the code requires it. Every single connection is torqued to specification and carefully inspected before we ever energize the subpanel.
The grounding and bonding of a subpanel is a critical detail that genuinely requires real expertise to get right. In the main service panel, the neutral and the ground are bonded together at a single common point. In a subpanel, however, the neutral and the ground must always be kept completely separate from each other. This careful separation prevents current from ever flowing on the ground conductor, which would be unsafe. The neutral bar in a subpanel is fully isolated, while the ground bar bonds directly to the metal enclosure. Getting this single detail wrong is a surprisingly common mistake that creates a genuine safety hazard. For a detached structure, the subpanel often requires its own separate grounding electrode, such as a driven ground rod. The feeder running to a detached structure must include a separate equipment grounding conductor as well. Our electricians fully understand these requirements and install every subpanel to the National Electrical Code. This careful attention to grounding and bonding is exactly what separates a safe installation from a dangerous one.
A subpanel is very often the smart middle ground between a single dedicated circuit and a full service upgrade. When you only need a single circuit, a dedicated circuit run from the main panel may be more than enough. When your entire home lacks the necessary capacity, a full service upgrade is usually the right answer. When you need several new circuits all in one area, a subpanel is very frequently the ideal solution. It provides clean, organized capacity for that area without the larger cost of upgrading the entire service. Our electricians help you weigh all of these options honestly based on your actual needs and budget. We perform a careful load calculation to confirm that the main panel can actually support a new subpanel. If the main panel turns out to lack capacity, we honestly explain when a service upgrade makes more sense instead. This kind of honest guidance ensures you get the right solution for your home rather than the most expensive one. We treat your entire project as one whole connected system and recommend only what truly fits your needs.

The Importance of a Licensed Electrician for Electrical Subpanel Installation in Burleson, TX
Installing a subpanel involves details that require the knowledge of a licensed professional. The grounding and bonding of a subpanel differ from the main panel in a critical way. A licensed electrician knows the neutral and ground must be kept separate in a subpanel. Getting this wrong creates a genuine safety hazard that may not be obvious at first. In Texas, electrical licensing is regulated by the state to protect homeowners from unqualified work. A licensed professional sizes the feeder and breaker correctly for the subpanel’s load. They confirm the main panel has the capacity to support the new subpanel. They handle the grounding electrode and bonding for detached structures to code. They pull the permits and schedule the inspections that the work requires. A licensed electrician also carries insurance that protects you if something goes wrong. An improperly installed subpanel can overheat, fail to protect circuits, or create a shock hazard. Wallace Electric sends only licensed, background checked technicians to every subpanel installation, so the work is always done right.

Commonly Asked Electrical Subpanel Installation Questions
Subpanel installation raises several practical questions about how they work, when to use one, and what the install involves. The answers below address the topics homeowners across Burleson ask us about most often.
An electrical subpanel is a smaller panel that branches off your main electrical panel. It receives power from the main panel through a single feeder cable. That feeder connects to a dedicated breaker in the main panel sized for the subpanel. The subpanel then divides that power among its own set of breakers. Each of those breakers protects a circuit serving a specific area or device. This lets you distribute power locally rather than running every circuit from the main panel. A subpanel functions like a satellite of the main panel. It extends your electrical system to where you need more circuits.
The way a subpanel works makes it useful in many situations. The feeder carries the power, and the subpanel distributes it through short branch circuits. This keeps the wiring organized and the breakers conveniently located. For a detached garage, one feeder runs to the structure and the subpanel handles the rest. This is far cleaner than running many separate circuits across the property. The subpanel also provides local control over the circuits in that area. A tripped breaker is reset at the subpanel rather than the main panel. This convenience is one of the main reasons homeowners choose a subpanel.
A subpanel has one critical difference from the main panel in how it is wired. In the main panel, the neutral and ground are bonded together. In a subpanel, the neutral and ground must be kept separate. This separation is essential for safety and is required by code. Our electricians understand this requirement and wire every subpanel correctly. We also size the feeder and breaker to match the subpanel’s load. We confirm the main panel can support the subpanel before installing. To learn how a subpanel could help your home, contact Wallace Electric.
The cost to install a subpanel depends on several factors unique to your project. The distance from the main panel to the subpanel location affects the feeder length and cost. A subpanel in an attached garage costs less than one in a detached structure. Running the feeder underground to a detached building adds to the scope and price. The capacity of the subpanel and the size of the feeder influence the cost. The number of branch circuits you need from the subpanel also factors in. The condition and capacity of your main panel affect the total as well. Because every project differs, Wallace Electric provides a clear written quote before any work begins.
Several elements make up the total cost of a subpanel installation. The subpanel, the feeder cable, and the breakers are part of the materials. The labor reflects the skill and time required for the installation. Running the feeder, especially underground, can be a significant part of the work. A detached structure may require its own grounding electrode, which adds materials. Permit and inspection fees in your local jurisdiction add a modest amount. We inspect the main panel and the route before quoting so there are no surprises. Financing options are available to make larger subpanel projects easier on your budget.
The most accurate way to learn your cost is to have a licensed electrician evaluate the project. We confirm the main panel has capacity and assess the feeder route. We determine the right subpanel size based on the load you need to support. From there, we build a transparent estimate that lists each part of the work clearly. You will know exactly what you are paying for before we begin. We never add hidden charges once the job is underway. This honest approach has earned the trust of homeowners throughout Burleson. Call Wallace Electric today for an accurate subpanel installation quote.
The choice between a subpanel and a service upgrade depends on your situation. A subpanel adds circuit space when your main panel is full but your service has capacity. A service upgrade increases the total power your home can draw from the utility. If your home simply lacks enough overall capacity, a service upgrade is the answer. If your service has capacity but your panel is out of slots, a subpanel may suffice. The key question is whether your home needs more power or just more circuit space. A load calculation answers that question clearly. Our electricians perform that calculation to guide your decision.
A subpanel is often the right choice for adding circuits to a specific area. A detached garage, a workshop, or an addition is a classic subpanel application. In these cases, a subpanel provides organized local capacity without upgrading the service. This is often more cost effective than a full service upgrade. However, a subpanel still draws from your main panel and service. If the main panel and service are already near their limit, a subpanel alone is not enough. In that case, a service upgrade may be needed first. The right path depends on your home’s total capacity.
Our electricians help you make this decision based on your actual needs. We perform a load calculation to determine your home’s capacity and demand. We assess whether your service can support a subpanel or needs an upgrade. We explain the options honestly so you understand the tradeoffs. We recommend the solution that fits your needs without overspending. We never push a service upgrade when a subpanel would do the job. This honest guidance ensures you get the right solution. To find out which option fits your home, contact Wallace Electric.
Yes, a subpanel is one of the best ways to power a detached garage or workshop. Running a single feeder to the structure and installing a local subpanel is efficient. The subpanel then provides the circuits for outlets, lights, and equipment in that space. This approach is far cleaner than running many separate circuits from the main panel. It also gives you convenient local control over the structure’s circuits. A workshop with power tools especially benefits from a dedicated subpanel. The subpanel handles the concentrated load that heavy equipment demands. This makes a subpanel a popular choice for detached structures.
Powering a detached structure involves some specific requirements. The feeder usually runs underground in conduit rated for that use. A detached structure typically requires its own grounding electrode, such as a ground rod. The feeder must include a separate equipment grounding conductor. The neutral and ground must be kept separate in the subpanel, as in any subpanel. These requirements exist to keep the detached structure safe and to code. Our electricians understand and follow all of these requirements. This ensures your garage or workshop is powered safely and reliably.
Installing a subpanel in a detached structure is a job for a licensed electrician. We confirm the main panel can support the added load with a calculation. We size the feeder and breaker for the structure’s demand. We run the feeder, install the grounding electrode, and wire the subpanel to code. We pull the permits and handle the inspections the work requires. We test everything before energizing the subpanel. This ensures your detached structure has safe, reliable power for years. To power your garage or workshop, contact the team at Wallace Electric.
A subpanel can be located a considerable distance from the main panel. There is no strict maximum distance, but distance does affect the installation. The longer the feeder run, the larger the conductors may need to be. This is because voltage drop increases over longer distances. To compensate, we may upsize the feeder conductors for a long run. This ensures the subpanel receives the full voltage it needs to operate properly. Our electricians calculate the right conductor size based on the distance and load. This keeps the subpanel performing correctly regardless of distance.
Voltage drop is the key consideration for distant subpanels. When current travels a long distance, some voltage is lost along the way. Too much voltage drop causes equipment to underperform and run inefficiently. The code provides guidance on acceptable voltage drop for feeders. We size the conductors to keep voltage drop within safe and efficient limits. For a detached structure far from the main panel, this calculation is important. Upsizing the conductors costs a bit more but ensures proper performance. This is part of designing the subpanel installation correctly.
Our electricians plan the feeder run carefully for any distance. We measure the run and calculate the voltage drop for your specific situation. We size the conductors to deliver full voltage to the subpanel. We choose the right routing, whether through walls, conduit, or underground. We follow all code requirements for the feeder and the subpanel. This careful planning ensures the subpanel works reliably no matter the distance. We explain the plan so you understand how we account for the run. For a subpanel at any distance, trust the team at Wallace Electric.
The neutral and ground are separated in a subpanel for an important safety reason. In the main panel, the neutral and ground are bonded together at one point. This single bonding point gives fault current a clear path back to the source. In a subpanel, the neutral and ground must be kept separate from each other. Bonding them again in the subpanel would create a second path for current. That second path would allow current to flow on the ground conductor. Current on the ground conductor is unsafe and defeats the purpose of grounding. This is why the separation in a subpanel is essential.
The technical details of this separation matter for safety. In a subpanel, the neutral bar is isolated from the enclosure. The ground bar, by contrast, bonds directly to the metal enclosure. The feeder brings a separate neutral and a separate ground from the main panel. This keeps the two conductors performing their distinct roles. The neutral carries normal return current, while the ground carries only fault current. Bonding them in the subpanel would blur these roles dangerously. Keeping them separate ensures the system protects you as designed.
This is one of the most common subpanel wiring mistakes that unqualified work makes. An improperly bonded subpanel may appear to work while hiding a real hazard. Current flowing on the ground conductor can energize metal parts unexpectedly. A licensed electrician understands and follows this requirement on every subpanel. Our electricians wire the neutral and ground correctly in every installation. We follow the National Electrical Code to keep your system safe. This attention to detail is part of doing the job right. For a correctly wired subpanel, trust the team at Wallace Electric.
The right subpanel size depends on the load it must support. Subpanels come in various amperage ratings and breaker capacities. A small subpanel for a few circuits differs from one for a busy workshop. The first step is to total the demand of everything the subpanel will serve. This includes the outlets, lights, and equipment in that area. A load calculation determines the minimum capacity the subpanel requires. We also consider any equipment you plan to add in the future. The result tells us the right subpanel and feeder size for your needs.
Several factors influence the subpanel size you need. A garage with just lighting and outlets needs less capacity than a full workshop. Heavy equipment like welders or large tools increases the required capacity significantly. An addition with HVAC and multiple circuits needs more capacity than a simple space. The number of branch circuits you need also affects the subpanel choice. We balance your current needs with reasonable room for future growth. Sizing the subpanel too small leads to overloads and frustration. Sizing it appropriately gives you reliable capacity for years.
Choosing the right size is best done with a load calculation by a licensed electrician. We add up the demand of everything the subpanel will serve. We factor in your future plans for the area. We confirm the main panel can support the subpanel size you need. We then recommend a subpanel and feeder sized correctly for your load. We never undersize the subpanel or oversize it needlessly. This precision ensures your subpanel serves the area reliably. For help sizing your subpanel, trust the team at Wallace Electric.
Yes, installing a subpanel requires a permit in most Texas jurisdictions. Cities around Burleson, including those in Tarrant and Johnson counties, enforce this requirement. A permit triggers an inspection that confirms the work meets the National Electrical Code. This process protects you, your home, and any future owners of the property. Subpanel work involves feeders, grounding, and bonding that the inspection verifies. Skipping the permit can lead to fines and a requirement to redo the work. It can also create problems when you sell or insure your home. Wallace Electric handles the permitting process so you never have to navigate it alone.
The permit requirements can vary slightly from one jurisdiction to the next. Some areas have specific requirements for feeders and detached structures. A licensed electrician knows which rules apply to your subpanel project. We determine the permit requirements before we begin the work. We pull the permit and schedule the inspection on your behalf. This saves you time and removes the guesswork from the process. It also ensures the finished work carries proper documentation. That paperwork is valuable when you sell or insure your home.
Attempting subpanel work without a permit creates real risks. Unpermitted electrical work can complicate a home sale or an insurance claim. If the work fails a later inspection, you may have to redo it correctly. A subpanel wired incorrectly is also dangerous, which is why inspection matters. The cost of a permit is minor compared to these potential consequences. Wallace Electric never cuts this corner, because your safety comes first. We manage the entire permitting and inspection process as part of our service. For permitted subpanel work done right, trust the licensed team at Wallace Electric.
