We hired this electrician for our breaker panel replacement in Dallas after buying an older home. The existing panel wasn’t up to code and couldn’t support the modern appliances that got installed by the previous owner. They installed a new electrical service panel, whole home surge protection & hosted a city inspection. He explained everything very clearly. If you’re in need of a home electrical panel upgrade, I highly recommend them. The work was clean, efficient and the whole process was stress-free. Great experience from start to finish thanks guys!

March 11, 2026

These guys are awesome - I was painting for a customer and removed the can lights to remove popcorn texture, however they required some adjustment because of the new ceiling height. Wallace was hired by the customer to do other light renovations and so I asked them if they could add on a small scope. I know this was a big ask because it's always difficult to change your scope of work especially late at night as they were ( the customer was moving in the next day and working hard to add extra touches). But their service was awesome and obviously very skilled because the modification was quick and professional and the customer loved the seamless service. I also found the prices very affordable and would continue to do business with them.

I was having some built in shelves installed that required an outlet. Caleb came recommended from my installer. Caleb set up an appointment and came out that next week. Caleb and his partner came on time and got right to work. They were absolutely great to work with. They were professional and treated my home with respect. The outlet was installed to the exact specifications that was needed by the installer. After they were done they made sure everything was I working order and then cleaned up. I was highly impressed. I will definitely be using his services again and will recommend him to my friends and family.

Electrical Service Upgrade Service

An electrical service upgrade increases the total amount of power your home can safely draw from the utility company. The service is the main connection that brings electricity from the grid into your home, and it is sized in amps at the panel. Many older homes were originally built with a hundred amp service or even less, which fit the modest needs of that earlier era. Wallace Electric performs professional electrical service upgrades for homes and businesses throughout Burleson and the surrounding communities we are proud to serve. Today’s homes demand far more power for central air conditioning, electric appliances, EV chargers, and all of our modern electronics. A service that was perfectly adequate decades ago very often falls short of what a busy modern household now requires. Upgrading the service gives your home the full capacity it needs to run everything safely and reliably at the same time. Our licensed electricians always size the new service based on a proper load calculation of your home’s actual electrical needs. They coordinate with the utility, replace the panel and all the service components, and bring everything fully up to code. A properly upgraded service is the solid foundation that supports your home’s growing electrical demands for many years to come.

There are several clear signs that your home may need an electrical service upgrade. Frequent breaker trips across several different circuits often point directly to a service that simply cannot keep up with demand. Lights that noticeably dim when major appliances start up clearly signal a system straining against its limits. A panel that is completely full, with no room left for new circuits, indicates that you have reached your service capacity. Relying on extension cords and power strips throughout the home strongly suggests a real shortage of available circuits. Plans to add a major appliance, a home addition, or an EV charger very often require more service capacity than you currently have. An older home that still relies on a hundred amp service is a very common candidate for an upgrade. A home that still has a fuse box rather than a modern breaker panel almost always needs a full service upgrade. These warning signs all point to an electrical service that no longer matches the heavy demands placed upon it. Recognizing these signs helps you upgrade before the limitation becomes a daily frustration or a genuine safety risk.

Modern daily living places demands on a home’s electrical service that simply did not exist just a few decades ago. Central air conditioning alone draws a heavy, sustained load that older services were simply never designed to handle. Electric ranges, clothes dryers, water heaters, and ovens each add significant demand to the home’s total electrical load. EV chargers now represent one of the single fastest growing reasons that homeowners need a service upgrade today. Home offices, home theaters, and the many connected devices in a modern home all add steadily to the total load. Many homes originally built with a hundred amp service simply cannot support all of this heavy demand at once. Upgrading to a full two hundred amps gives most homes the capacity to run everything they need comfortably. Our electricians perform a load calculation to determine exactly how much service your home requires. This load calculation accounts for both your current electrical demands and the equipment you plan to add later on. Sizing the service correctly prevents dangerous overloads today and also leaves plenty of room for your home to grow tomorrow.

An electrical service upgrade is a major project that involves several carefully coordinated steps from start to finish. The work always begins with a careful load calculation to determine the correct service size for your particular home. We then coordinate directly with the utility company, since they must disconnect the power and may need to upgrade the meter. Our electricians replace the service entrance conductors, the meter base, and the main panel as the upgrade requires. We install proper grounding and bonding so that the upgraded service can reliably protect your home during a fault. Every connection is made precisely to specification and carefully inspected before power is ever restored to the home. We pull all of the proper permits and schedule the inspections that this significant work requires. We coordinate the timing of the whole job carefully to minimize how long your home has to go without power. The end result is a modern, fully code compliant service that safely supports your home’s complete electrical demand. We handle the entire project from start to finish so you never have to navigate the utility and permitting process alone.

A service upgrade often goes hand in hand with a panel upgrade, since the two work together. The panel distributes the power that the service delivers, so both of them must match your home’s required capacity. When we upgrade the service, we typically install a brand new panel sized to match the higher capacity. This new panel provides both the open slots and the capacity for all of your current and future circuits. We add modern breakers, including both GFCI and AFCI types, in every location where the code requires them. We label every single circuit clearly so the new panel is easy to read and understand for any future work. The new panel also readily supports whole house surge protection to guard all of your sensitive electronics. Together, the upgraded service and the new panel give your home a complete and thoroughly modern electrical foundation. This combined approach ensures that every single part of the system can comfortably handle the increased capacity. We treat the service and the panel as one single connected system rather than as two entirely separate jobs.

An electrical service upgrade delivers benefits that reach throughout your entire home. The most important benefit is the added capacity to run modern appliances and equipment safely and reliably. The upgrade also ends the everyday frustration of frequent breaker trips and dimming lights throughout the home. It also gives you the freedom to add an EV charger, a home addition, or major appliances without any worry. A modern service is inherently safer, since it includes current protective devices and proper grounding throughout. The upgrade often increases your home’s overall value and appeals strongly to prospective future buyers. Insurance companies themselves sometimes favor homes that have a modern and adequate electrical service. A properly sized service supports your home’s full electrical needs for decades rather than just a few short years. The investment pays you back over time in real safety, added capacity, lasting reliability, and genuine peace of mind. This is exactly why a service upgrade remains one of the most valuable improvements that any homeowner can make.

Choosing Wallace Electric for your service upgrade means choosing safety, precision, and genuine care for your home. We are a family owned and operated company with deep roots in the Burleson community we serve. Every technician we send is licensed, background checked, and drug tested for your complete peace of mind. We work cleanly, carefully respect your home, and leave the work area exactly as we found it the moment we finish. Our white glove service reflects the respect we hold for every home and business we enter. Flexible financing options help you comfortably handle a larger service upgrade without straining your household budget all at once. A full five year parts and labor warranty stands firmly behind the lasting quality of all of our work. We explain every recommendation in plain language so you can make a confident, informed decision. For urgent service problems that cannot wait, our emergency electricians are available around the clock to help you fast. When you need an electrical service upgrade done correctly the first time, our experienced team is always ready to assist.

The Importance of a Licensed Electrician for Electrical Service Upgrade in Burleson, TX

An electrical service upgrade is among the most demanding and dangerous jobs in the trade. The service conductors carry lethal voltage and connect directly to the utility supply. A licensed electrician understands this danger and follows the procedures that keep the work safe. In Texas, electrical licensing is regulated by the state to protect homeowners from unqualified work. A licensed professional knows how to perform a load calculation and size the service correctly. They understand how to coordinate with the utility for the disconnect and reconnect. They install proper grounding and bonding so the upgraded service protects your home. They pull the permits and schedule the inspections that this significant work requires. A licensed electrician also carries insurance that protects you if something goes wrong. An improperly upgraded service can overheat, fail to protect your home, or even start a fire. Unlicensed service work may save money today and create a serious hazard tomorrow. Wallace Electric sends only licensed, background checked technicians to every service upgrade, so the work is always done right.

Commonly Asked Electrical Service Upgrade Questions

Electrical service upgrades raise several practical questions about cost, capacity, timing, and what the work involves. The answers below address the topics homeowners across Burleson ask us about most often.

The cost of an electrical service upgrade depends on several factors unique to your home. The target capacity is a major factor, since a two hundred amp upgrade costs more than a smaller one. The condition of your existing service entrance and meter base affects the scope of the work. Coordination with the utility for the disconnect and reconnect is part of the project. Upgrading the panel along with the service adds to the total, since both usually go together. The accessibility of the service equipment can influence the labor involved. Permit and inspection fees in your local jurisdiction add a modest amount. Because every home differs, Wallace Electric provides a clear written quote before any work begins.

Several elements make up the total cost of a service upgrade. The service entrance conductors, the meter base, and the panel are part of the materials. The labor reflects the skill and time required for this demanding work. Coordination with the utility adds another component to the project. Bringing older grounding and bonding up to code can also affect the cost. If your service mast or weatherhead needs replacement, that adds to the scope. We inspect everything before quoting so there are no surprises later. Financing options are available to make this major investment easier on your budget.

The most accurate way to learn your cost is to have a licensed electrician evaluate your home. We perform a load calculation to determine the right service size for your needs. We inspect your service entrance, meter base, and panel condition. From there, we build a transparent estimate that lists each part of the work clearly. You will know exactly what you are paying for before we begin. We never add hidden charges once the job is underway. This honest approach has earned the trust of homeowners throughout Burleson. Call Wallace Electric today for an accurate service upgrade quote.

Several signs indicate that your home may need an electrical service upgrade. Frequent breaker trips across multiple circuits point to a service that cannot keep up. Lights that dim when major appliances start signal a system straining against its limits. A panel that is full, with no room for new circuits, means you have reached capacity. Relying on extension cords and power strips suggests a shortage of circuits. An older home with a hundred amp service is a common candidate for an upgrade. A home with a fuse box almost always needs a service upgrade. These signs all point to a service that no longer matches your home’s demands.

Your plans for the home are another key consideration. Adding a major appliance like an electric range or dryer increases your demand. Installing an EV charger is one of the most common reasons for an upgrade today. Building an addition adds circuits and load that your service must support. A home renovation that adds electrical demand may require more capacity. If your current service cannot handle your plans, an upgrade is the solution. A load calculation reveals whether your service has the capacity you need. Our electricians perform that calculation to give you a clear answer.

The surest way to know is to have a licensed electrician evaluate your service. We perform a load calculation based on your current and future needs. We inspect your service entrance, meter, and panel to assess their condition and capacity. We then explain whether an upgrade is needed and what size makes sense. We never recommend an upgrade you do not need. We give you honest information so you can make the right decision. This careful approach ensures you get the capacity your home actually requires. To find out if you need a service upgrade, contact Wallace Electric.

The difference between 100 amp and 200 amp service is the amount of power available. A 100 amp service can deliver up to one hundred amps of current to your home. A 200 amp service doubles that capacity to two hundred amps. This added capacity makes a major difference for a modern home. A 100 amp service was common in older homes built for the demands of that era. A 200 amp service is the standard for most modern homes today. The higher capacity supports central air, electric appliances, and EV chargers comfortably. The right service size depends on your home’s total electrical demand.

The practical impact of the difference shows up in daily use. A 100 amp service can become overloaded when many high demand devices run at once. That overload causes breaker trips and limits what you can add to the home. A 200 amp service handles heavy loads without straining or tripping. It also leaves room to add new appliances, an addition, or an EV charger. For most modern households, 100 amps simply is not enough capacity. Upgrading to 200 amps removes that limitation and supports your full demand. The difference is the freedom to use your home’s electrical system without worry.

Choosing the right service size is a decision best made with a load calculation. A licensed electrician adds up your current and future electrical demands. The calculation determines the minimum capacity your home requires. For many homes, 200 amps provides the right capacity with room to grow. Our electricians perform this calculation and explain the results clearly. We recommend the size that fits your needs without overbuilding. This precision ensures your service supports your home for decades. For help choosing the right service size, trust the team at Wallace Electric.

Installing an EV charger does not always require a service upgrade, but it often does. An EV charger draws a significant continuous load, especially a level two charger. Whether your service can handle that load depends on your current capacity and usage. A home with a 200 amp service and modest existing loads may have room for a charger. A home with a 100 amp service is far more likely to need an upgrade. A load calculation determines if your service can support the charger safely. This calculation adds the charger’s demand to your existing loads. The result tells us if an upgrade is necessary.

Several factors influence the answer for your specific home. The amperage of the EV charger you choose affects the load it adds. Your existing appliances and their demand affect how much capacity remains. The size of your current service sets the ceiling on what you can add. A home already near its capacity will likely need an upgrade for a charger. A home with spare capacity may be able to add a charger without one. Our electricians evaluate all of these factors before recommending a path. This ensures the charger runs safely without overloading your service.

Adding an EV charger safely is a job for a licensed electrician. We perform the load calculation to determine if your service can handle the charger. If an upgrade is needed, we size the new service to support the charger and your home. We install the dedicated circuit the charger requires to code. We pull the permits and handle the inspections the work requires. This ensures your charger is both safe and reliable for years. We treat the charger and the service as one connected project. To add an EV charger to your home, contact Wallace Electric.

Most electrical service upgrades are completed in a single day. A straightforward upgrade with accessible equipment typically takes several hours to most of a day. The complexity of the work and the condition of your existing service affect the timeline. Coordinating with the utility for the disconnect and reconnect adds to the schedule. Replacing the service entrance, meter base, and panel takes time to do correctly. Inspections, when scheduled separately, can extend the overall process by a day. We give you a realistic timeline before we begin the work. Our goal is to restore your power as quickly as safety allows.

The upgrade process involves several careful steps. We start with the load calculation and coordinate the utility disconnect. We replace the service entrance conductors, the meter base, and the panel as needed. We install proper grounding and bonding and connect every circuit correctly. We test the system thoroughly before restoring power to the home. Each of these steps takes time to do safely and to code. Rushing this work would compromise both safety and quality. Our electricians work efficiently while keeping every step correct.

Planning keeps the project on schedule and minimizes your time without power. We coordinate the utility and the inspection timing in advance. We plan the work so your home is without power for the shortest time possible. We communicate the schedule clearly so you know what to expect. If we discover hidden issues, we explain them and adjust with your approval. Surprises are rare when an experienced electrician plans the job well. We clean up thoroughly so your home looks untouched when we leave. For a clear timeline on your service upgrade, contact Wallace Electric.

Yes, your power will be off for part of a service upgrade. Upgrading the service requires disconnecting power at the utility to work safely. The utility company typically disconnects the power before the core work begins. This is a necessary safety step, since the service cannot be replaced while energized. The duration of the outage depends on the complexity of the upgrade. A straightforward upgrade involves a shorter outage than a complex one. We plan the work to minimize how long your home is without power. We communicate the expected timeline so you can prepare.

We take steps to make the outage as manageable as possible. We coordinate the utility disconnect and reconnect to keep the process efficient. We prepare everything in advance so the actual power off time stays short. We work steadily through the upgrade to restore power as soon as it is safe. For most homes, the outage lasts a portion of the day rather than longer. We let you know the expected window so you can plan around it. Sensitive needs, like medical equipment, should be discussed with us in advance. We work with you to address any special concerns about the outage.

Planning ahead makes the outage a minor inconvenience rather than a disruption. You may want to prepare for the time without power based on our estimate. We recommend planning for items that depend on continuous power. Once the new service is installed and tested, we restore power promptly. The brief outage is a small trade for a safer, more capable electrical system. Our electricians keep you informed throughout the entire process. We never restore power until the service is fully tested and safe. For a smoothly managed service upgrade, trust the team at Wallace Electric.

Yes, an electrical service upgrade requires a permit in most Texas jurisdictions. Cities around Burleson, including those in Tarrant and Johnson counties, enforce this requirement. A permit triggers an inspection that confirms the work meets the National Electrical Code. This process protects you, your home, and any future owners of the property. Service work is significant, so the permit and inspection are important safeguards. Skipping the permit can lead to fines and a requirement to redo the work. It can also create problems when you sell or insure your home. Wallace Electric handles the permitting process so you never have to navigate it alone.

The permit process for a service upgrade involves coordination with several parties. The local jurisdiction issues the permit and conducts the inspection. The utility company must disconnect and reconnect power for the upgrade. A licensed electrician knows how to coordinate all of these steps. We pull the permit, schedule the inspection, and work with the utility on timing. This coordination ensures the work is done legally and safely. It also guarantees the finished service carries proper documentation. That paperwork is valuable when you sell or insure your home.

Attempting a service upgrade without a permit creates serious risks. Unpermitted electrical work can complicate a home sale or an insurance claim. If the work fails a later inspection, you may have to redo it entirely. Service work done incorrectly is also dangerous, which is why inspection matters. The cost of a permit is minor compared to these potential consequences. Wallace Electric never cuts this corner, because your safety comes first. We manage the entire permitting and inspection process as part of our service. For permitted service work done right, trust the licensed team at Wallace Electric.

A service upgrade usually includes a new electrical panel, since the two work together. The service delivers the power, and the panel distributes it to your circuits. When you increase the service capacity, the panel must be able to handle that capacity. An older panel often cannot support the higher amperage of an upgraded service. For this reason, we typically install a new panel as part of the upgrade. The new panel is sized to match the upgraded service capacity. This ensures the whole system can handle the increased power safely. Treating the service and panel together gives you a complete, modern system.

The new panel brings additional benefits beyond matching the service. It provides the slots and capacity for your current and future circuits. It accommodates modern breakers, including GFCI and AFCI types where required. It supports whole house surge protection to guard your electronics. A clean, properly labeled panel makes future electrical work easier and safer. The new panel replaces aging equipment that may have been near the end of its life. This upgrade improves both the capacity and the safety of your system. The combined upgrade is a worthwhile investment in your home.

Our electricians handle the service and panel upgrade as one coordinated project. We size both to match your home’s load calculation. We replace the service entrance, the meter base, and the panel together. We install proper grounding and bonding for the complete system. We pull the permits and handle the inspections for the entire upgrade. We test everything before restoring power to confirm it is safe. This integrated approach ensures every part of the system works together. For a complete service and panel upgrade, trust the team at Wallace Electric.
